Our main goal at Austin SSC Kids is to give every participant a fun, safe, and positive experience. We emphasize skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and a love for the game. To achieve this, all players, parents, and coaches must follow this Code of Conduct.
For Players: Play Fair, Be Kind, Give Your Best!
As an Austin SSC Kids player, you’re expected to:
Play Fair & Follow the Rules:
Learn and respect soccer’s rules.
Always play with the spirit of the game in mind.
Respect referee decisions, even if you disagree. Arguing with officials isn’t allowed.
Avoid dangerous or reckless play that could injure anyone.
Show Great Sportsmanship:
Treat teammates, opponents, coaches, and officials with respect, no matter their skill, background, or the game’s outcome.
Shake hands with opponents and officials before and after games.
Congratulate opponents on good plays and show empathy when they make mistakes.
Never make fun of or belittle anyone.
Control your temper. No yelling, taunting, or abusive language.
Be a Team Player:
Work together with your teammates.
Encourage and support your teammates, especially when they make mistakes.
Listen to your coaches and always try your best to follow their instructions.
Attend practices and games regularly and on time. If you can’t make it, let your coach know.
Effort & Attitude:
Always give your best effort during practices and games.
Maintain a positive attitude, even when things are tough or you’re losing.
Learn from your mistakes and always strive to improve your skills.
Respect the Environment:
Help keep playing fields and facilities clean.
Treat all equipment with care.
For Parents/Guardians: Support, Encourage, Lead by Example!
As a parent or guardian, your role is crucial in creating a positive soccer experience for everyone. We expect you to:
Foster a Positive Atmosphere:
Encourage your child and their teammates, regardless of the score.
Focus on effort and enjoyment, not just winning.
Applaud good plays by both teams.
Maintain a positive demeanor on the sidelines.
Respect Officials & Coaches:
Never openly question or challenge a referee’s decision during a game. If you have concerns, address them through proper channels after the game.
Refrain from yelling instructions to your child or other players during games; it can confuse them and undermine the coach.
Respect the coach’s decisions regarding playing time, positions, and strategies.
Communicate any concerns with the coach privately and respectfully, at an appropriate time (not immediately before, during, or after a game).
Support Your Child’s Development:
Emphasize sportsmanship, teamwork, and effort over winning.
Help your child understand that mistakes are part of learning and growth.
Ensure your child arrives on time for practices and games, adequately equipped.
Help your child understand and follow the Player Code of Conduct.
Lead by Example:
Model respectful and positive behavior at all times.
Refrain from using foul language, making negative comments, or engaging in any aggressive or disruptive behavior towards anyone.
Remember that children learn by observing adult behavior.
Volunteer & Participate (If Able):
Offer to help with team duties when possible (e.g., carpooling, snacks, field setup/teardown).
Be an active and supportive member of the team community.
For Coaches: Guide, Inspire, Prioritize Fun & Growth!
As an Austin SSC Kids coach, you are a leader and a role model. Your main responsibility is to create a safe, fun, and developmentally appropriate environment for all players. You are expected to:
Prioritize Player Well-being & Development:
Ensure the physical and emotional safety of all players.
Emphasize fun, participation, and skill development over winning at all costs.
Provide equal opportunities for all players to participate and learn.
Teach fundamental soccer skills and the rules of the game.
Help players develop a love for soccer and sports in general.
Be a Positive Role Model:
Exhibit exemplary sportsmanship at all times.
Control your temper and reactions, especially when things go wrong.
Treat all players, parents, officials, and opposing coaches with respect.
Never use abusive, demeaning, or sarcastic language.
Promote Fair Play & Sportsmanship:
Teach and reinforce the principles of fair play and good sportsmanship.
Encourage players to respect opponents, officials, and teammates.
Shake hands with opposing coaches and officials before and after games.
Communicate Effectively:
Communicate clearly and regularly with players and parents regarding practice schedules, game times, expectations, and any concerns.
Be approachable and willing to listen to player and parent feedback or concerns respectfully and privately.
Provide constructive and positive feedback to players.
Knowledge & Preparation:
Be prepared for practices and games with age-appropriate drills and strategies.
Continuously seek to improve your coaching knowledge and skills.
Understand and enforce the league rules and regulations.
Respect Officials:
Accept referee decisions without dispute. Address any significant concerns through the appropriate league channels after the game.
Help players understand and respect the role of the referee.
Enforcement and Consequences
Violating this Code of Conduct may lead to disciplinary action, which could include:

Temporary suspension from practices or games

Dismissal from the team or league
All incidents will be reviewed by the league/team administration, and decisions will always prioritize the best interest of the players and the integrity of our recreational soccer program.
By participating in Austin SSC Kids recreational soccer, all players, parents, and coaches agree to abide by this Code of Conduct. Together, we can create a positive and enriching experience for everyone involved!
